Kakao Entertainment plans and produces about 30 dramas and movies with its affiliated production subsidiary this year.
This is an increase compared to last year's 20 dramas and movies. About 10 of the currently planned and produced works have been confirmed to be released through global online video services (OTT), screens, and broadcasting.
Kakao Entertainment introduced mega hits such as "Surinam" and "In-house Confrontation" based on the multi-label system last year, and plans to solidify its position as a global studio with a stronger production lineup this year.
In addition to co-roduction of headquarters and subsidiaries, such as "Gyeongseong Creature," it plans to expand joint projects of competent subsidiaries such as "worst evil" and "competition."
The global OTT lineup will showcase Netflix series "Gyeongseong Creature," "The Bandits: The Sound of Knives," Netflix movies "Competition," Disney Plus "Race," and "The Worst Evil." Film production will also accelerate. Following last year's "Broker" and "Hunt," "Hwaran," "Cross," "Exident" and "Night Trip" will be released this year.
It will also speed up the planning and production of works based on Kakao Entertainment's original story intellectual property (IP). Namnam, based on the popular webtoon of the same name, a Kakao webtoon co-produced by Wind Pictures, is a representative example. Fantasy mystery academy romance "Borrowed Body," which depicts the disturbance caused by the change of the body of the strongest "insider" in high school, and "Aquaman," a nine-year-old friendship youth growth, are also set to be unveiled.
The production of well-ade TV dramas will continue. The youth rescue romance tvN's "Youth Woldam" between the crown prince and the genius girl, and SBS's "Police Station Next to Fire Station" Season 2, which tells the story of police and firefighters, have confirmed the airing.
Jang Se-eong, head of Kakao Entertainment's video business division, said, "We will upgrade the stable studio system and strengthen synergy with subsidiaries with excellent creative and production capabilities. We will focus on diversifying premium content IP targeting the global market."
He added, "If Kakao Entertainment proved its competitiveness and growth potential last year, we will solidify our position as a representative global studio for K-content and expand our influence in the global entertainment industry this year."
