Kakao announced on the 1st that its Jeju office (office) has achieved "RE100" by purchasing a renewable energy supply certificate by signing a business agreement with Sixteen Herz.
RE100 is a voluntary commitment of companies to respond to climate change by covering 100% of the electricity used by companies with renewable energy.
Kakao purchased a renewable energy supply certificate (REC) produced by civic unions across the country belonging to the National Citizens' Development Cooperative Federation through a business agreement with Sixtyhertz signed last year.
Sixtihertz provides solutions for predicting renewable energy generation such as solar and wind power. It also introduced renewable energy subscription service 'Monthly Sunshine Wind'.
The National Federation of Civic Development Cooperatives is the largest energy cooperative association in Korea, consisting of about 90 civic unions and about 10,000 members. Members operate about 240 solar power plants and generate solar energy.
Kakao plans to gradually expand its procurement of renewable energy in the future. It plans to convert its total electricity usage to eco-friendly energy by 60% by 2030 and 100% by 2040.
Park Hoon young, head of Kakao's Environmental Management TF, said, "The achievement of the Jeju Office RE100 is important to reduce carbon emissions at a social level beyond companies. We will expand our interest in eco-friendliness and promote various activities together."
